"Ah yes, you would ban or burn such books as the bible"
No, Greg. I would do neither. I merely speak against their suitability as a moral guide; and I point out the dangers of fanaticism.
As to your right to free speech: I believe that I always encouraged you to speak what was on your mind...even when the garden was so stunted that the squirrels ran about with tears in their eyes.
So go ahead; tell me how the bible (with its earthly tortures, and the heartfelt promise of tortures to come), validates your sense of moral probity? Since I have known you, you have relied solely on the fallacious argumentum ad verecundiam as a ground for any opinion you have had. My only recourse, in the face of such fanatical simplicity, was to gently point out to you the fact that your "authority" is a cross section of absurd, contradictory, childish, immoral, and risible primitives from our ancestral past. It is one thing to understand the superstitious excesses of a pre-scientific age; it is quite another to put these moral primitives on a pedestal for emulation.
For a grown man to simply ignore logic and reason when it interferes with his dogmatic beliefs, I find incredible. I am in awe at your continued willingness to simply insist that you will not be confused by the facts... |
