That is an interesting idea...that of the politicizing of the Enron sitch being a bit of a red herring.

I believe in the idea of "follow the money" as a way to focus any investigation. Therefore it is appropriate to put politicians under a little bit of scrutiny. However, it isn't illegal for politicians to receive donations nor is it illegal, or even an indication of wrongdoing to accept a phone call from a corporate exec who is in trouble. If the politicians acted on those requests in a questionable way, certainly they would deserve even more scrutiny. But again, there isn't any indication that any politicians did anything wrong (either dem or rep).
