We now have AMD's line yields to be at least 96% and it comes directly from Hector. So... what are Intel's line yields on an established volume process? And from where/whom are you getting your data?? Surely...this isn't confidential. Is it??

No doubt that 96% Line Yield is impressive. Congratulations to the AMD Process Engineers who made it so. Gives my whole profession a big pat on the back. (pat pat).
The thing is, in my day to day analysis, I have at my disposal dozens of Metrics to quantify the Safety, Quality, and Output of the Fab, and If I were going to make up a Powerpoint Presentation to report out on it, Line Yield, would not only NOT make the Presentation cut, it wouldn't even be in the top 10 metrics I'd look at. In the puzzle of Process Engineering, Line Yield is a Very Small Piece.
It might be argued that I'm looking at it from a biased "Bee" point of view. Perhaps, but I'm also looking at it from a Process Engineering point of view, and I just find it a bit strange that when Jerry wanted to crow about his Fab's performance, He didn't pick one of the Big Pieces of the puzzle like say, Die Yield, Bin Split, Machine Availability or Defect Density. No, he picked one of the more insignificant ones, and from a purely Process Engineering point of view, it makes me go hummmmmm.....
It's strange, that's all I'm saying........
