However... It's an unfortunate pre-requisite of academe to use lofty obscure words that doom her work to a very narrow readership.

I don't know what you've been reading lately but, compared with most academic prose these days--take literary theory as an illustration or my discipline, sociology, her book and the proposal for the next one, are written in very clear prose, even elegant at times.
