Michael, I understand what you are saying, but property taxes would not be so bad if other taxation issues were settled. As it is, the federal government is taking so much of a person's earnings in taxation, and not using the funds in a prudent way, that there must be some way to maintain the small communities, and cities. One of the main problems, IMO, is that the federal government, under the last administration and others before it, are taking away the identity of communities. They are trying, and succeeding so far, of taking control of schools, and many other local projects, and taxing us more for these services than would be needed if the tax were on a local level, because of the bureaucratic feed trough in Washington, D.C.
If communities were given full control of education, and other local concerns, and the federal taxes now being used for them forfeited back to the community, then the property taxes on property would not be a bad idea. IOW, we would get more bang for our buck, and be in control of the use of the money raised by such taxes. I would to along with, just about, anything that would break the strangle hold the federal Government has on us through taxes. To wrest this control, and taxation, from federal control would take some time because of the entrenchment of the many bureaus, but the end result would be better services per dollar of tax paid.
