Would like to know why you think they were politically inspired and better yet, HOW the politicians could influence them, because the head of BLS doesn't have to answer to too many people.

Presidential Administrations come and go every four to eight years, so no politicians are around long enough to influence monumental changes in the how the data is gathered and spit out.

If you consider all the changes that have occurred over the years in the economy, with entirely new sectors such as computer technology springing up, and some sectors dying out, and the development of new software to synthesize data---wouldn't it be more surprising if everything about the gathering of economic statistics stayed the same?

And by the way, the White House can put any spin on the data they want to after the data is released, so I doubt anyone at the Big House spends much time pushing BLS around even if they could.
