Timetobuy,

"Were it not for Msft's lack of superb security, symc would be nonexistent and there would be no need for their products"

Nah, first Microsoft will introduce ActiveEye, a sleuth API aimed at "helping" companies like Symc detect intruders in their new WindowsAmigo OS. Six months later, these companies have rewriten their code to work with ActiveEye only to find that Microsoft has reverse engineered the old version of the third-party software and bundled it with Windows SS, its new "hard-as-nails" OS which incidentally drops ActiveEye support in favor of Doberman, an abstract, yet-to-be-defined list of services under the .NET initiative. Yawn...by the time Symc is through chasing the tail of Doberman around for a year, Microsoft will have closed the gap on features and be bundling for free what Symc is trying to sell. Just a prediction.

Did talk to a doctor today who purchased a Sony Vaio sporting XP which refuses to talk with his existing Windows network. Has Ethernet changed lately? Looks like he will be recalculating his TCO a bit once he pays for the onsite service of a Windows XP guru. His only reason for having XP is that it came with the laptop, he has no intention of upgrading the rest of the machines unless forced to. The current software does everything they need it to. I wonder what percentage of businessmen he represents? Out of 400 million PC users only 17 million XP licenses sold, that says it all about the "rush" to embrace XP.

Cheers,
Norm
