Another nifty feature of the new iMac

It supports FireWire target disk mode. So that if needed, you can connect two Macs together with a FireWire cable (such as the one included with the iPod) and transfer files between them at 400 Mbps, rather than requiring users to either set up a home network or buy a crossover Ethernet cable and transferring files via the 10/100 Mbps supported by mere Ethernet.

LAN speeds in this day and age (unless they are Gigabit Ethernet) are just too dang slow. And FireWire rocks! I wonder how much longer it'll be before FireWire-based networking makes a more serious appearance than the spotty products that I've seen for it so far? Especially once FireWire goes over Gigabit speeds itself (which might just happen next week, hmmmm?).

Buona fortuna
