Timetobuy,

Microsoft will probably never ship utility programs or anti-virus software because it is an admission by the OS maker that there are "issues" with the system they tout as "stable" or whatever. Windows never claims to be secure because everyone knows its the swiss-cheese of the crowd. So this leaves the marketing solution of "more secure" open for the application of some long-term grifting.

People are beginning to question why they should upgrade when all the current software does what they want and they've spent so much effort getting it that way (an experience many do not want to chance repeating). The only big feature left that would compel people to upgrade like the lemmings of old is the feeling that their machines are secure from all these viruses and hacker data thefts that are in the news. I just don't think the clowns of Redmond will stand for another performer in this ring of their circus.

Cheers,
Norm
