Perhaps someone can shed some insight regarding a problem my neighbor has been having. An intermitant (sp?) noise occurs from his older computer. I believe it is a fan bearing but can't be certain since it only did it once when I was present. We took the cover off today without any luck. He tells me it hasn't made a peep for several days now and probably won't while I'm available. He is in his eighties and doesn't hear as well as I but he can hear this without a problem as it is relatively loud. Anyway, I suspect a fan problem. If it were the hardrive wouldn't there be a noticeable effect in performance? He discerns no problems other than the noise, but he is concerned as he keeps considerable data. I advised him to back up the files to dikettes anyway which he is doing. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
