allowing young people today, who still atleast theoretically still have their wits about them to "opt out".
The point is, the young of today have no clue whether they are going to be fit and healthy whent they are old or if they will have cronic back pain and a shopping cart full of depends. That is the point behind a defined benefit plan is that you don't have to try to read your crystal ball 50 years into the future. A successful fix for this problem will be found in the form of gathering the revenues necessary to meet the obligations. Everything else is smoke, mirrors, or default.
