I've had a config file in my Quake3 folder that has been bugging me for months. It keeps changing into a notepad file from wordpad when I open it. The notepad file has all the commands in it in one big line with the break symbols in between where each command should break and be it's own line. So everytime I want to edit it to change game settings I had to cut and paste it into a wordpad so i could read it easier.

I just used your hold the shift key advice and it worked. :)
