I don't think it's as simple as tribalism. I know Pashtun people here in the US who are lawyers and computer programmers. No doubt there are Pashtun doctors and engineers and architects.

The worst client I ever had was a Pashtun man, who was proven in open court to be a liar, a perjurer, and a fraud. The county was after him for zoning violations, and wound up proving it by using surveillance photos. It was the most humiliating moment of my professional life. Thank God everyone realized I'd been conned, too. Now I realize he'd have done anything at all to win. Even after the judge found him guilty, he refused to change the violations and wound up going to jail for it. Not very many people get put in jail for zoning violations.

He had subdivided his house into apartments. When the county came to inspect, he'd have people haul the furniture and stoves and refrigerators out before the scheduled inspection, and then haul it back after the inspectors were gone. I was there for two inspections and did not suspect a thing. Bastard introduced one of his tenants to me as his sister. Turns out she was Hispanic. The county had people taking photos before and after. When I saw the photos I wanted to crawl under the table.

Last I heard of him, another judge gave his wife 95% of the marital estate in his divorce. Good for her.
