I have Direct TV and it sucks on picture quality compared to "good" off air NTSC.

Eric

I agree with your comment on Direct TV's quality.

I've had it since the first day (9-94) it was available and have watched the digital signal deteriorate to the point that it's really no better quality than the cable signal I'm getting for my Network programming.

I have now cancelled everything on Direct TV but HBO(12.00 a month) and have that only for programming such as OZ,Sex in the City, The Sopranos, the fights, etc.

6 months ago I got into renting DVD’s online and after trying out 6 different rental companies have settled on 2 that fit my needs.

For 50.00 a month I get about 30 new releases or older ones if I choose per month delivered to my mailbox through regular mail

This is Blockbusters competition until VOD arrives.

The largest rental company NetFlix now has over 350,000 customers and others are popping up quite rapidly.

I also read in Sound and Vision mag that Phillips is soon releasing a Digital DVD-RW recorder with I believe also has the TiVo feature.

DVD and players are in and VHS and VCR's are on the way out.

I've been waiting for several years now for that technology to come to the marketplace.

I heartily agree with Mindmeld that we have a love affair with Hollywood.

Cheers
