Could this be a puzzling scripture?
Scenario #1
John Doe sincerely asks Jesus into his heart. He prays the sinners prayer. He begins to grow in Christ---but along the way, John Doe begins to become quirky about his interpretation of scripture and before you know it, he becomes like the man of Heaven's Gate, gets a following and goes Haley Bopping along, taking others with him.
Did Christ know him and he backslid and lost his salvation, or did Christ not honor his word and come into his heart or----?
