gst, i don't know. my guess is the avg asian gets much more of a physical workout on a daily basis than their american counterparts. it seems to me that has to be factored in.

diet is important. exercise is important. drinking good water is important.

unlike some, i don't claim to have ALL the answers. i do my best to get the protein i require throughout the day (not in two meals for the same reason i don't take 15 aspirin at one time to help a headache ;-) i eat smaller portions throughout the day. i eat enough carbos to feed the brain and avoid long term ketosis which can be very dangerous to some individuals. i supplement monounsaturated fat in order to help keep my insulin production in a "zone" and to provide hormonal building blocks.

i have a LOT more energy and feel much better. i'm not stressing my body in order to "lose weight." i'm eating healthy and the weight comes off by itself, in its own healthful time.

is the zone the perfect diet? no way. i do believe it to be more reasonable and rational than any other diet i'm familiar with, though.

will it work for everyone? probably not, depending on genetic makeup. imho, though, it is worth a try.
