Enron says FBI conducts shredding probe at its HQ

HOUSTON, Jan 22 (Reuters) - Federal investigators entered the Houston headquarters of bankrupt energy trader Enron Corp. on Tuesday, seeking evidence that sensitive financial documents were being shred just two weeks ago, the company said.

``We can confirm that Department of Justice and FBI personnel are on site, conducting an investigation into the allegations raised last night,'' company spokesman Vance Meyer told Reuters.

A former Enron employee, Maureen Castaneda, told ABC television on Monday that documents were shredded in the Enron building up until her departure from the company in the second week of January, despite court orders forbidding the destruction of documents.
