But while video may be interesting for some people, better performance is a boon for everyone. To that end, Microsoft has been working to improve the perceived performance of Memphis as compared to Windows. Besides some tweaks to make the OS boot faster and run applications more quickly, the Memphis defragmentation utility can reorganize how your favorite applications are stored on the hard disk, to make them start more quickly. And Microsoft has obviously made some changes to the system shutdown. Gone are the 20-second waits for everything to close. Instead, Memphis shuts down in a couple of seconds--a serious time savings whenever you have to reboot your system.

Oh great! This is good news, after Win98 crashes I can reboot the sytem faster! Uh, it would be kind of nice if only on very rare occasions had to reboot. Again, what are they doing to improve system reliability? I have to wonder if it can be improved.
