As for accounting practices, the only reason people are getting sick of write-offs is because we are in a recession. Fortunatley, the government has given companies like AOL the green light to write off as much good will as they want in a single quarter. Many companies have compressed 10 years of amortization into a single write-off.

IMO, not true. This proforma sheet has bee abused to the point of a heroin junkie trying to justify why he continues to use. Proforma "one time write offs" have eslclated to the point where we see them every quarter. Granted, proforma, used responsibly is an okay practice. Just when you see one time charges being renewed every wuarter, even the believers begin to doubt.

No one has ever made money shorting the market coming out of a recession.

One of us is right, the other is wrong. I don;'t believe we are coming out of a recession.

As demand for these improved products encourages 24/7 consumption of bandwidth, maybe even the capital spending companies will return to health.

Maybe. That is a risky gamble. Of course those that do the gambling and are right reap the larger rewards. and conversely if they are wrong stand the biggest chance of losing more.

P.S> I hoep everyone realizes that by my posting spree tonight I'm almost assuring a stellar day(reversal) in the comp(g)
