This evening I attended a free Optionetics Trading Workshop that was offered here in town:

optionetics.com

I thought I would post my impressions and see if anyone has ever taken the full cost course. The blurb promises that you will:

*Learn how you can take only 5-10 minutes a day to find High Profit, High Probability Trades
* Find out how to spot exciting "cash on cash" return trades and learn several strategies that will help you find trades that fit your personality.
* Receive FREE our trading Package demonstrating our strategies and their amazing results!
* Revealed - How master traders trade ahead of the market.

The presentation lasts about two hours. I left after about an hour and 45 minutes. What was offered was an introduction to options, the leverage of puts and calls, and a quick once over on delta and theta. The speaker indicated that volatility was very important but didn't say why or how you knew when volatility was high or low. Some examples were discussed in more detail such as the method that "allows you to make money whether the stock goes up or down" which turns out to be a long straddle. The techniques mentioned in the bullet points above are only alluded to with the full treatment reserved for the multi-day seminars that I guess you were supposed to sign up for at the end of the talk.

For my money (well, it was free) there was too much emphasis on how you can make 250% on a 10% move in the stock when you are long options with only $0.60 a share at risk. It was pointed out that you could lose that $0.60 so I don't think they were misleading anyone, but the presentation didn't mention how many times you had to lose the $0.60 before you made the 250% trade. As someone who has found it easier to make money selling rather than buying calls I thought there was too much emphasis on long option positions, but then I haven't taken the full course and don't know all the secrets.(g)

Don't think if you go that you will be prepared to trade options. I am sure that the wind up to the sales pitch is that in order to do that you need to sign up for one of the two or three day seminars at 4 or 5 grand a pop.

Anyone taken one of their seminars? Or anyone else's such as McMillan's? Are they anywhere near worth the cost?
