Evasion. If the entire civil gov't and the military were against such action, a man who inherited the Presidency would never have appointed it. "Gee, my first day in office. Why don't I start by pissing EVERYBODY off?"

You don't understand, Lazarus. Any compromise or public concession to the hated filty scumbag bastard "Japs" at that time was rather difficult to spit out. Many did speak out but that old snowball just kept rolling and growing larger, and the inner circle of cronys and chosen appointees had their way.

"Are you? A simple yes or no will suffice. Anything else will be considered more evasion"

Sorry, you do not dictate to me what I share about my life or family. I have told you that I do not consider race, color, or nationality to be pertinent to argument. That would be racism.

If I tell you private details of my life it will be by PM. I follow the recommendations of the experts as to exposing my family to unknown weirdos who roam cyberspace. My colour, nationality, gender, county, province, country, or crescent are no concern of yours--and they have no relevance to my arguments.

"Yeah, people get killed in wars. "Innocent people" too. Get used to it."

I have been "used" to it for many many years. Being "used" to something does not justify it--else I suppose we would still think the world was flat. There is nothing wrong with trying to learn from the past, or in trying to influence the future for the better.

"An appallingly inadequate excuse. Did they expect special consideration from the people they had started a war with because they were Shinto"

Of course they did. Just as (If Jesus came back to reign) Christians at the losing end of a war would be willing to give up everything to preserve their "God".

"2. Their choice on Dec. 7, 1941 was appallingly active."

That has now more relevance than the Jews scooting across the Red Sea. It has nothing to do with the conditions that were present at the end of the war.

This is not a forum to determine racial superiority or weakness. It is a gentle revisiting of the past...to understand what happened and why it happened. It does not take brain surgery to understand that these were real human beings--no different than you or me. After the Army and Navy were destroyed (before, actually: as early as 43), they knew they were lost. The army was still left, and they had power by virtue of that very fact: power comes from power.

The Japanese wanted to have their God left...after losing everything else; because if you must lose even your meaning, then there can be no motive to negotiation.

The Americans did leave them their God in the end, and He lived for several decades. They could have done so earlier, but they put strategy, tactics, revenge, and hatred ahead of humanity.

I would guess that about 80% of Americans with post secondary education consider now that it was an inhumane choice. But that choice was made at a time when the agony of death stalked every family, and bled through every thought. Thus is no longer the case. I have tried to present a considerate viewpoint to ease the ugliness and pain of the past from all sides. In am disappointed that the only conversation I have attracted is black and white bigotry. Where are those with grey hair and wisdom???
