It's not surprising at all. GeForce2 MX doesn't exactly have "state of the art" graphics by today's standards. In fact, after nVidia launches the GeForce4 MX next month, the former will start looking pretty obsolete. I would think that this kind of performance from the i845G would be a minimum goal for Intel - and it shouldn't be too difficult, either, since they've had 3 years of experience in making graphics cores since they launched the i810 (whose graphics core was also found in the i815). The question is whether this minimum performance gives Intel an advantage in the integrated graphics space, since VIA and SiS are similarly well behind the "state of the art" (nVidia and future nForce chipsets not withstanding).
