Like I said, Intel can do a lot in the 3 years since the i810 (upon which core the i815 was built). If Intel doesn't make GeForce2 MX level of performance, I don't think that the integrated graphics would be a convincing enough selling point for the chipset. In other words, it wouldn't be nearly as successful as the i810/i815. However, I think that GeForce2 MX level graphics should be quite easy these days. Increase the number of graphics pipelines, increase the clock frequency, and add a higher speed cache - all these are easy improvements, and they all provide generous gains.
