I rolled my 401(k) over into an IRA when I left the company, not because of any dissatisfaction with the plan, but because the IRA gives me more control. In retrospect I would have been better off leaving it in. Neither Tencor nor KLA-Tencor allowed 401(k)investment in the company's stock while I was there, as it was judged to be too risky. The investment choices offered were a variety of equity mutual funds, an S&P 500 fund, a bond fund, and a money market fund.

One of the things I always appreciated was the conservative fiscal management of the company, which is of course a necessity if they are to survive in an industry with such wide swings in business.
