15:57 ET Yahoo! (YHOO) 18.67 -0.53: Dow Jones running headlines indicating that Yahoo will unveil a new fee-based search service with Divine (DVIN 0.80 +0.08); it is not clear what is meant by a "fee-based web search service", but if this is a pay-for-performance service, it might indicate that Yahoo's trial deal with Overture (OVER 37.32 -0.35) will not be extended when it expires in April; at this point, there is not enough information to know what these headlines mean, however.

16:00 ET Yahoo! (YHOO) 18.52 -0.68: -- Update -- We would note in relation to the previous comment that a fee-based service could indicate a service that charged users rather than advertisers (which is the OVER model); this is possible given that DVIN acquired Northern Light this morning; Northern Light charges enterprises for search and content services. In other words, these Dow Jones headlines could be in reference to a service quite different than the OVER/YHOO offering.

16:18 ET Yahoo! (YHOO) 18.42 -0.78: -- Update -- Dow Jones story on YHOO/DVIN deal indicates that the fee-based search service will charge users for searches of newspapers, trade journals, etc; this deal is clearly unrelated to its pay-for-performance deal with Overture (OVER) and probably says nothing about the future of that agreement.

Interesting...
