Campaign finance is merely an adjunct of the Enron problem, not the heart of it.

That is exactly 100% wrong.

The ONLY thing the country cares about is the effect of the influence pedling.

Your other arguments are a smokescreen to cover up this one fact.

"Spread themselves too thin". WHAT? We don't want them to spread themselves at all. What possibly could be your justification for wanting to hide the source of campaign contributions?

But they would have much more time if it didn't take so long to bury McCain's campaign contribution reform.

Or the time it takes to protect the source of soft money.

Or the time it takes to block the SEC from going after the conflict of interests created UNDER EXISTING LAW like Arthur Levitt wanted to do when Arthur Anderson is the Auditor, and Anderson Consulting gives you advice on how to get around the audit.
