...by winning the Battle of Britain, and invading England successfully... That probably would have the been the war right there in 1940, Tim ... we lost before we started. The scenario is fascinating (and frightening) to contemplate. Germany now has only a one-front war if it chooses to invade Russia, and can pick its own time to do so. The powerful German Navy is no longer bottled up by the Royal Navy, and comes out with its surface battleships, along with the subs, to rule the Atlantic. (Perhaps the Germans get the former Royal Navy, unless it is scuttled). There is no base for the U.S. to mount any invasion of Europe, even if we could manage to get troops across the Atlantic. Japan has Germany and Italy as allies who would declare war upon us, if we declare war upon Japan. Churchill said that the free world as we knew it hung in the balance while Britain and Germany battled out air supremacy, and it is hard to see any way where that was not the case. They all would have come after us in the Western Hemisphere sooner or later. Edit: Never have so many owed so much to so few
