New Focus' Network Tunable Laser Wins Photonics Spectra 2001 Circle of Excellence Award

(Nasdaq: NUFO - news), a leading supplier of innovative products serving the telecommunications, test and measurement, and photonics tools markets, announced today that the company's TLS 420C, a widely tunable network laser, has been awarded the Photonics Spectra 2001 Circle of Excellence Award. Sponsored by Laurin Publishing Company, this award is given annually to the industry's top 25 technically innovative products and is bestowed in recognition of excellence, innovation, and achievement.

The TLS 420C is the industry's first network tunable laser with the optical power levels required to serve both long-haul and metro markets. The laser module includes a high-power laser, wavelength locker, output power control along with other control functions, and drive electronics. This unique patent-pending technology delivers 20 milliwatts (+13 dBm) over the entire C-band (1528 to 1565 nanometers).
New Focus received the award at the Photonics West conference in San Jose, California on January 21, 2002.
