Hey,rex:We're fighting a war against people who believe their truth is the only truth. It turns out, fortunately, that their truth is not as strong as ours. But that war is not the only war. The ebb and flow of ideas is constant. Nothing is fixed, except in the world of those who believe their truth is absolute.
When you say the truth is the truth, you are probably referring to the really important mega-truths that most people believe in. And it's a good thing the majority of people have those beliefs.
But in the everyday world of politics, if you don't think that you are being spun from all directions, I think you are mistaken. You might call that the cynical morally vacuous strategy of the democrats, but the semantic spin machine and the poll driven selective use of factoids and interpretations is certainly not the sole province of democrats. Take the last election, for example. After all those studies, what happened still depends on how you read the materials, what facts you give weight, all of which is determined by your own pre-existing ideology. What's true depends on how many others you can convince. |
