Thanks, final resolution and lessons learned

Thanks for the input. I found out my system has a system restore with a calender. Just pick a date and system is configured as it was on that date. I was impressed.

Two Things learned
1. I f you delete a file and it says it might be sharing it with another file do not delete.

2. Just because an application recovery disk is labeled a
CD does not necessarily mean it goes in the CD Drive.
It is possible, as it was in my case, it goes in the
DVD drive. Why don't they call it a recovery DVD; I
don't know.
