I didn't find any links to product specs for the Toshiba Portege 2000 from the CNet article. Could you provide? TIA

If Sony has a large-format lithium-polymer cell of its own make, it's been in stealth mode. The only other manufacturer to demo large cells has been Sharp, with cells from Hitachi-Maxell (also not believed to be a Valence licensee, being a splinter of the old 3M/HydroQuebec research, which *also* does not consider itself derived from Valence nee Bellcore-licensed technology).

While the smaller cells for cellphones and PDA applications can 'safely' be cobalt-based, there is potentially an issue about the large-format cells. We shall see soon enough, eh?

OTOH, Toshiba has thrown down the gauntlet! If the product sells well, other manufacturers will soon show similar thin formats.
