Post says commodity prospects improve

Anvil Range Mining Corp ARO
Shares issued 20,500,000 Jun 27 close $2.29
Wed 2 Jul 97 In the News
The Financial Post reports in its Wednesday edition that after several
years in the doldrums, zinc prices are up 37 per-cent so far this year and
the fundamentals are pointing to further improvements over the next few
years. Reporter David Thomas notes that First Marathon Securities analyst
John Lydall says that zinc is one metal market that has shown real strength
during the first half of 1997. That is good news for several major Canadian
mining companies, all of which derive a sizeable chunk of their income from
zinc. It is even better news for a few firms that are heavily weighted in
zinc, including Anvil Range Mining, which is dependent on a strong zinc
market to reopen its Faro zinc-lead mine in the Yukon. The metal, which is
used primarily in the galvanizing of steel, closed out 1996 at US$0.47 a
pound on the London Metal Exchange. It now trades at US$0.64, and has moved
up steadily other than a brief correction in April.
