TYC paid a considerable premium to get CIT in the Tyco fold. Management justified that premium by noting the synergies that would be possible within Tyco. Thsoe supposed synergies disappear with an independent CIT.

By spinning that same CIT (only the name is different now) back off, Tyco shareholders will essentially be losing that premium that Tyco paid to the CIT shareholders.

This breakup is a sign of weakness at TYC, not a sign of strength.
