Hi Mq - I agree with your assessment of boom-n-bust in sharemarkets, a phenomenon which has been fairly well studied over the past few centuries. Which was why I suggested talking about macroeconomies - I disagree that busts in sharemarkets causes busts in macroeconomies (because I don't "get" the mechanism of transmission), although I can see how a bust in a macroeconomy would cause a bust in the sharemarket. Parenthetically, spring semester at GMU just started Tuesday. There are around ten sections of Money and Banking, but I picked the section I am taking because the professor is somewhat unusual in having us read books with historical interest - we have to divide up the class into groups and each group reads one economic history book and explains it to the class. All of the books look very interesting, like one about the development of sharemarkets in Amsterdam and London, or the one about the history of banking in colonial America, or the one about free banking in Britain, but I picked Barry Eichengreen's "Globalizing Capital: a History of the International Monetary System."
