Here's a couple of good posts on Brush's Williams division that I copied from Yahoo!

DVD Sales

According to Adams Media Research - quoted in Business Week, Jan. 21, 2002, page 8 - DVD sales will increase 33% to $9 billion in 2002. By the end of the year, U.S. household DVD penetration will be only 34% so that growth will continue.

This is an excellent market for BW's Williams Division whose PVD products are used in making DVDs. In 2000 WAM was almost 25% of BW's sales.

Followup on WAM

I notice in the press release that Williams Advanced Materials reported sales that were flat for the year, while most of BW's business was down sharply.

If you recall my post on DVD sales and the rapid growth there, it sheds some light on why WAM did so well. The press release also says that Williams had record profits.

So think about what a fast grower like Williams would be worth as a stand-alone company. (Not that I want that, mind you). WAM has gone from $77 million in sales three years ago to $135 today. I could easily see a fast growing company like that with markets in high-tech areas commanding a multiple of 2 times sales. That would be worth $16 a share for each BW share outstanding.

See how cheap this stock is?
