Craig, Having watched the competition between these 2 companies for years, I can tell you that 1 quarter EMLX will look better, the next quarter QLGC will look better. It does make you wonder, though. Apparently the growth this quarter came largely from SCSI HBA's and Controllers to Hitachi and Fujitsu. Fibre channel HBA's apparently did well, but switches were "flat".
I have never been able to understand why Qlogic FC switches would not sell well vs BRCD into DELL or Compaq. I think Desai answered this in the Conference Call by saying that it is virtually impossible to dislodge the incumbant supplier whether that is in your favor or against you.
The Qlgc hope for switches is for the 2 gig switches (both in a box and on the motherboard) to ramp in the July-December time frame. Hopefully they can take some market share from Brcd with Dell/Compaq. (I have been looking for this for years, so I am not too hopeful.) Qlogic plans to drive down the cost of these products and increase overall sales of FC storage products. wj
