Anybody can try coming out with a new NAS product. However, they have difficulty getting it to work well. All I can do is point to the long line of companies who failed in trying to compete with NTAP. They keep coming. All with so called "new" NAS products. If you look into it, all they're doing is focusing on some niche part of building a NAS and claiming it the newest, biggest, best NAS yet. Nothing different. I don't think any of them have been able to manage files better than NTAP's WAFL file system.
A good example of one of these new boys is Procom. NTAP has had the ability to deliver blocks of data since at least last June...and probably longer. But now, Procom is supposed to be something new?
Another one is Blue Arc. So what if they take some of the work away from the processor on the unit and take it up with separate Asic's on each connection. Big deal. NTAP can just add processors to the filer to do more work that Blue Arc is doing with Asics. Heck...NTAP has been waiting for years for networks to speed up.
The new boys keep coming. And they keep falling. Just watch them stand the test of time. None have yet.
