Intel fights back on AMD claims - INQUIRER "buying into" AMD plans

CHIP GIANT INTEL has entered into what may turn into an unseemly row over how thermals affect the design of a PC.

Earlier this week, we reproduced an AMD chart in its latest roadmaps which used the PR rating against MHz speeds for Intel chips and which appeared to claim thermal properties of Athlon XPs beat Pentium 4 heat properties hands down.

See AMD's take on Pentium 4 power consumption and Heat on in in Athlon-Pentium 4 power chart.

But that's got the dander of sleeping chip dragon La Intella well and truly up, with a blistering retort to the whole dang affair.

The INQUIRER has been bombarded with emails since we first published the piece.

Said an Intel representative: "It looks like you bought into AMD's marketing campaign and started to use 1600+ etc, surely if you're measuring electricals and thermals, you should also use actual Hz rather than marketing speak, or maybe like the rest of us you are confused which number relates to what."

[Ed's note - this reproduces AMD's table in roadmaps it is showing to its customers - all we did was reproduce it.]
