It’s Not As Good As VOD, but It Is Better Than Blockbuster/Hollywood

Through a friend’s introduction, my wife has been trying a DVD rental service by NetFlix (www.netflix.com). For a $20 monthly fee, we can view as many as 30 DVD movies from a collection of 11,000 titles every month. The DVDs are delivered to our home by first-class mail from one of NetFlix’ mailing centers in the country. We can keep each DVD as long as we want and always have up to 3 movies on hand and return the DVD in its free, pre-paid envelope and order another from the list we created online.

There are thousand foreign movies, too, including Chinese titles that I never heard of before.

The cable companies will have no choice but to speed up their broadband and VOD deployment while the movie rental stores in the street corner getting killed.

Even DSL may not have a chance.
