Today, thanks to months of work by dedicated activists around the
country, we have secured a fair House vote on banning "Soft Money" --
enormous contributions to political parties, mostly by corporations.
A "Discharge Petition" on the Shays-Meehan bill has now been signed by
218 Representatives (listed below), a majority of the House, forcing a
fair vote over the objection of House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-IL-14).
The battle is far from over -- the House still has to vote. To win,
we'll need the support of all our friends, and probably also a few more
who did not sign the petition. Please help by making an important
phone call now:
Please check the list of signers, below, for your Representative's name.
If you see your Representative listed, please call her or him and say:
"Thank you for signing the Shays-Meehan discharge petition.
Please vote with Shays and Meehan to pass the bill."
If your Representative is a Republican, this call is especially
important.
If your Representative is NOT on the list below, call and express your
deep disappointment, but please also say:
"You can still do the right thing by voting for the Shays-Meehan bill."
