I wouldn't bet on it. When Gates decided to develop a graphical interface they did it. It took a while but they've done a reasonable job. When Gates declared Microsoft was going to take over the internet after arriving late at the party, they did that pretty well also. Stability was an issue, certainly the newer OSs they've put out are more stable. I think now they've decided to take on the security issue and comparisons with, Linux and possibly OS X UNIX security. I think we all agree they don't do it best very often but they seem to be able to do it well enough most of the time.
