Pentagon Considers Increasing Use of Hyperspectral Imagery

The Pentagon is studying the possibility of increasing its use of hyperspectral imagery during the war on terrorism, according to U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Stephen Ferrell, the Pentagon’s space architect. Officials conducting the study are examining issues including the best architecture for using hyperspectral satellites, and what work in this area should be accelerated, Ferrell said during a Jan. 17 discussion with reporters at the Pentagon. The utility of hyperspectral imagery is one of several aspects of the study, which began in October 2000. The results of the study will be announced in the next month or two, Ferrell said
