>>i need to go dredge up a bunch of athletes to prove to you that the principles behind diets like atkins are sound?<<
no, just one freakin' example to prove that the atkins diet is a peak performance diet. just one, single solitary athlete - you know, the guys and gals that thrive on peak performance and anything that will help them achieve excellence?
no doubt the atkins diet has a strong weightloss component. there is much doubt that it supports optimal performance, though.
zone followers have won gold medals. atkins followers wathced them on tv.
>>Dear Dr. Sears,
My name is Christopher N., and I am the coach for the Extreme Fitness Team, a group of female athletes who compete in a variety of extreme events. I experimented with the Zone nutritional plan on myself earlier this year, and the results were fantastic. My weight dropped from 190 to 175 pounds and my body fat was reduced from 11 percent to 6 percent.
The thing that separated your program from others that I had tried was the fact that my strength levels actually went up in some cases and remained constant in most aspects. Usually this kind of weight loss was accompanied by a corresponding drop in strength levels. Given these results, I decided to use the Zone plan on my athletes. Well, the results were outstanding. I was able to easily adjust the ratios of macronutrients given the feedback the girls gave me after each meal. They loved the variety of food, the fact they didn't feel deprived and that their strength and endurance levels remained high even as their bodyfat and weight levels dropped. The Zone bars were definitely a easy way to get extra nutrition on the course and during the competition.
Their times on the Extreme Obstacle Course at this year's Ms. Galaxy contest in Cancun, Mexico, were great. In fact we collected seven of the top 15 spots, including 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 8th, 9th and 13th place. Our team captain Lori Ann Lloyd set another world record at 54.79 seconds, the closest competitor being a full 5 seconds away.
I already have the girls preparing for the fall season and the Zone nutritional plan will definitely be a big part of the way they set their training table!
Thanks and keep up the good work.
Sincerely, Christopher N.<< |
