Vesper will have over 1 million subs by the end of the year. Globalstar has sold 50,000 handsets. There is no comparison between the potential success of the 2 companies.

I'd love to see Bell Canada or Sprint PCS buy Pegaso. Do you realize how much money that Pegaso made Qualcomm. It probably helped Qualcomm close the deal for Ericsson to buy the infrastructure division in 1999. They can afford to throw $30 million at Pegaso for a strategic sale.

You may be right about Relliance. There is always risk in international deals. However, if you want to cover the planet with CDMA networks, these are the deals that have to be made. At least they are not providing vendor financing at 150%.

Qualcomm cannot challenge the GSM group with superior technology and no investment. It's counterproductive to go around insulting people like Jeff Jacobs for making investments that seal the path for more CDMA networks. Even if the projects fall apart in deep recessions like this one, it's far better than T Bills at 3%. I'm not buying Qualcomm to get a guaranteed return by the government.
