On the Doofus Division- A.L. should remember that, in addition to building a new standard from scratch and displacing the standard favored by perhaps the modern economy's most entrenched and well connected cabal (next to OPEC), QCOM's burden has been to engage in any number of money-losing ventures, first to prove the viability of the standard (the infrastructure and handset divisions) and later to promote the standard in markets not otherwise served by CDMA.

As CDMA becomes more widespread as we move through the transition from 2g to 3 g, the need to do this will correspondingly diminish. Yet another drag on earnings disappears, further amplifying the growth rate.

The "DCF says the NPV is 15" crowd might want to factor this into their models, and further understand that to use earnings the year before true 1x emergence and in the midst of a tech slowdown unprecedented in history as the baseline for such models is, I think ,unfair.

Nonetheless, mucho thanks to mucho for all of his contributions. I love the guy, I just pray like hell that he's wrong.
