New Blue Ribbon Resources has signed a letter of intent to acquire a 90-per-cent interest in a second Lac Joubert property (the Lac Joubert 2 property), which is adjacent to the Majescor-BHP joint venture within the Otish Mountains region of north-central Quebec. The project totals approximately 9,675 acres of permit applications, which gives New Blue Ribbon about 17,000 acres in the Otish Mountains. The Otish Mountains area is within the Superior Craton, which represents one of the world's largest accumulations of Archean crustal rocks. The property is contiguous to the first Lac Joubert property (the Lac Joubert 1 property), which the company recently acquired and strategically located along the east side of the Majescor-BHP Otish Mountains property. The Lac Joubert 1 property acquisition is subject to Canadian Venture Exchange and regulatory approval. The Lac Joubert 2 property is about 40 kilometres up-ice of the Ashton-SOQUEM Inc. Renard 1 and 2 kimberlites. The diamond potential of the area was confirmed when Ashton (see news in Stockwatch Dec. 17, 2001) reported that a 163.1-kilogram sample from the Renard 2 kimberlite contained 116 microdiamonds and 29 macrodiamonds. As reported by Ashton-SOQUEM Inc. and Majescor-BHP, the region is of particular interest as it has returned multiple indicator trains of kimberlitic minerals with exceptional quality chemistries. These include pyrope garnets with high-chromium, low-calcium (G10) chemical compositions and diamond inclusion chromites. Subject to regulatory approval, the company has the option to earn a 90-per-cent interest in the Lac Joubert 2 property for a cash payment of $30,000 and the issuance of 200,000 common shares. It is also the intention of the parties to issue an additional 200,000 common shares upon the discovery of a diamondiferous kimberlite within the property. The vendors of the property, Richard Hajduk and Jody Dahrouge, who are also directors of the company, will retain a 10-per-cent interest in the property, the nature and extent of which shall be subject to further negotiation and final regulatory approval. The company's 100-per-cent wholly owned subsidiary Arctic Star Resources Ltd. reports that operator Spearhead Resources Inc. has completed its initial phase of drilling in the Prairie River/Goose River area of Alberta. The company and its partners own the mineral rights on 86 sections of land on which four exploration wells have been drilled as reported by Spearhead Resources Inc. in news in Stockwatch dated Jan. 22, 2002: "In July, 2001, Spearhead drilled an exploratory well and drill stem tested gas out of the lower Cretaceous sands at a rate greater than two million cubic feet per day. This well is currently being completed and upon evaluation could be tied into an existing gas sales line. Potential exists for a development well offsetting this new gas well. " In December, 2001, Spearhead drilled on its North Prairie River lands, two exploration wells to test lower Cretaceous seismic anomalies. Neither well encountered commercial quantities of hydrocarbon. "In January, 2002, Spearhead drilled an exploratory well at Goose River and subsequently abandoned this well. "Spearhead is currently evaluating additional seismic and the results of these last four wells with the intent to do further drilling in these areas. Many untested prospects still exist on these lands, and further drilling will be pursued in 2002." The company is also pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Tymchy to its board of directors. Mr. Tymchy was a member of the Alberta government for 30 years, 1971 to 2001, representing the Whitecourt-Lac St. Anne area. During this time he was the Minister of Transportation, Minister of Occupational Health and Safety, and Minister of Parks and Recreation. Mr. Tymchy is also a business man who brings a wealth of experience and contacts to the company. The company has appointed Dr. Roger Morton as an adviser to the company. He has resigned as a director.
