I don't disagree with you at all.

In fact, if I were the lawyer for Yahoo I would have taken a certain evil delight in writing that letter. I would have been chortling over every sentence.

And the fact that they were legally perfectly entitled to do what they did would make it doubly delicious.

It's basic human nature, when somebody makes trouble for you, to pull their noses when suddenly they need something from you.

But also, in general terms, I do agree with their policy. And as a practical matter, how do they really know that all those aliases were Mary's or Delfino's, and that they didn't slip a few in there that weren't theirs? Didn't I just read here about a subpoena where the issuer tried to subpoena information on 75 of his OWN aliases?? When you get so many aliases, it can be hard to keep track of who you are.

Another good reason for sites to limit the number of aliases to one per poster. IHub seems to be able to manage this quite successfully, and I think SI tries.
