Matador,

<< I have been suspecting something going on in the mobile sector. Mainly that delays tactics of vendors (jockeying for position) are affecting deployment of UMTS/3G much more than other factors (financial, non-availability of terminals, ROI, network sharing issues etc, etc- This has a lot to do with the time scale UMTS/3G deployment and it is not being mentioned! >>

I don't disagree with you on this. I certainly think that the most overworked excuse by carriers is "non-availability of terminals".

If there were a dozen terminals today, they still wouldn't be actively marketed without underlying content and services.

The underlying content and services, are however, highly dependent on standards, whether de facto or de jure. It is a bit chicken and eggish.

<< (jockeying for position) ... The "Keep MSFT away from 'our' cake" is the most visible example ... >>

... of that there is no doubt (and I DO have a GTC buy order in to add a bit to my long standing MSFT position). <g>

<< A Forum here, a .org there, a consortium over there... >>

A few too many I would say ...
