Services rendered? You mean it was not an investment? The press release indicated that Amazon would be "improving or managing" I do not recall the exact words the e-commerce site of AOL. AOL also received shares for the deal but the implication was they were paying for expertise. AOL did not buy the shares on the open market. They could have done that as well if they truly wanted an investment.
