MSFT is the ultimate "good enough" company. If there's one thing Bill understands it's consumer psychology. It's amazing how tolerant people are if you tell them there's light at the end of the tunnel. We all know Windows 1, 2, and 3 were complete and utter rubbish. But to the unwashed MS-DOS Kool-aid crowd it was the answer to the Mac challenge and by God they were going to follow Bill to the promised land even it it took them a decade to get to the Mac's level of user-friendliness. But that's how Bill won 'em over.

MSFT reminds me of the Japanes Kaizen philosophy of improvement--small steps at a time. But it gets there eventually.
